High-efficient Admission Control in Ad hoc Networks

  • An admission control scheme is proposed to guarantee the quality of service (QoS) for real-time multimedia applications in Ad hoc networks. This scheme is based on cross-layer design, which mainly includes a destination-originated process on routing layer to admit or deny a coming flow based on the information sensed in MAC layer. The admission process operates only after the flow’s request to enter the network, and comparing to the traditional source-originated admission control process, the proposed scheme will bring less control overhead. The second feature of the proposed scheme is that it also adopts a temporary bandwidth reservation to prevent both over-admission and over-reservation. With very low control overhead, the scheme can guarantee the throughput, end-to-end delay and delay violation of the real-time traffics, which is proved by the analysis and simulation. It is also showed that the scheme can evidently improve the channel utilization compared with ASAP.
