Performance analysis of a novel UWB autocorrelation receiver  based on blockcoded modulation

  •  The non-coherent transmitted reference (TR) receiver is attractive for UWB communication system due to its simplicity for implementation. However, TR receiver suffers from energy loss and data rate reduction due to the transmission of non-data-bearing reference pulses. Recently, a codeword matching and signal aggregation (CMSA) receiver with block-coded modulation (BCM) has been proposed to overcome this drawback, but the optimality and theoretical error performance of CMSA receiver have not been presented. In this paper, we derive a novel non-coherent autocorrelation receiver for UWB BCM signals based on the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) optimality criterion. Unlike the CMSA receiver, the proposed receiver adopts the autocorrelation structure that can be implemented in a more flexible and simpler manner. Moreover, based on the derivation of pairwise error probability (PEP), the upper bound of the bit error rate (BER) is presented. Simulations in multipath fading scenarios show that this upper bound is quite tight for large SNR and is a good approximation of BER when BER is less than 10-3.
