ADS-B Spoofing Detection Method Using Doppler Effect

  • Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) technology is an air traffic control technology. Compared with the traditional surveillance technology, ADSB have a higher positioning accuracy, faster update speed and lower cost, thus has been vigorously promoted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). However, due to its non-encrypted channels and the openness of data protocols, it is vulnerable to all kinds of deception and interference, seriously threatens air traffic safety. This paper presents an interference detection method for single-antenna and single receiver: on the one hand, On the one hand, the Doppler frequency is estimated by the receiver decoding reports; on the other hand, the Doppler frequency information is obtained by direct frequency estimation of the received signal. Collecting each track point of the same track can obtain a set of report frequency and a set of estimated frequency respectively. The deception jamming is detected by judging whether the two sets of Doppler frequency estimates are consistent or not. The method takes full advantage of various types of messages broadcast by the target to improve the detection efficiency. Compared with other existing methods, this method is lower in cost and easier to implement in engineering. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the method.
