A Multi-Jammer Cooperating Jamming Method Against Polarimetric SAR

  • ‍ ‍Single-polarization synthetic aperture radar (SAR) jammers can achieve effective jamming against conventional SAR. When used against polarized SAR, the jamming performance of existing single-polarization jammers is significantly reduced. In some scenarios, the jamming is completely removed, preventing the effective functioning of jammers. This is because polarized SAR can utilize signals received from multiple polarization channels to employ polarization cancellation processing techniques to cancel out the suppression or deception jamming generated by single-polarization jammers. To prevent the jamming generated by single-polarization jammers from being identified and canceled by polarimetric SAR, this article proposes a polarization SAR jamming method based on the cooperative action of multiple jammers. Specifically, this method leverages the cooperative action of multiple single-polarization jammers placed at different positions and transmitting simultaneously. This makes it challenging for polarization SAR to accurately estimate the polarization ratio of the transmitting antennas of the jammer, thereby preventing the cancellation of suppression jamming and achieving the intended suppression jamming effect. By having multiple single-polarization jammers at different positions and alternate transmissions, the method effectively disrupts the correlation between adjacent receive pulses. This provides difficulty for polarization SAR to eliminate false targets in the range-Doppler domain, thereby achieving the objective of deception jamming. Furthermore, the alternating transmissions of multiple single-polarization jammers can generate intermittent sampling jamming in the azimuth direction, increasing the complexity of false target generation for deception jamming. As this method does not require changes to the emission structure of existing single-polarization jammers in practical applications, it offers convenience for interfering with polarization SAR. Moreover, the method employs template-modulation jamming for both suppression and deception jamming generation, enabling controllable suppression and deception jamming effects through simple template modifications. This study analyzes the techniques employed in polarization SAR for countering suppression and deception jamming. It then delineates the time-synchronized approaches employed by multiple jammers to generate suppression and deception jamming. Finally, based on template-modulation jamming methods, the paper analyzes the method of generating jamming through the cooperative action of multiple jammers, discussing the layout of multiple jammers and the selection criteria for the number of jammers. Theoretical derivation and simulation experiments demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve effective jamming against polarimetric SAR.
