Based-on Transformed-domain Accelerated Particle Swarm Optimization Wideband DOA Estimation Algorithm for Arbitrary Arrays

  • ‍ ‍In order to improve the accuracy of the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of wideband signals and reduce the computational cost, this paper proposed a based-on transformed-domain Accelerated Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO) wideband DOA algorithm in combination with known transmit signal waveforms, which is suitable for arbitrary arrays and low sampling rate cases. Firstly, matched filtering and Fourier Transform were performed on the received arbitrary array data. Secondly, the objective function for wideband DOA estimation was constructed with the Deterministic Maximum Likelihood (DML) criteria according to wideband array data model in frequency domain. Thirdly, the maximum value of the objective function which was the DOA estimated value was found by using the transformed-domain APSO algorithm. The proposed algorithm has low computational complexity since do without DOA pre-estimation and gradient information of the objective function. Simulation experiments show that the proposed algorithm has high DOA estimation accuracy and small computation cost. When signal-to-noise ratio is 20 decibels, the DOA estimation root mean-square error of the proposed algorithm is 0.02 degrees.
