Reverse-positioning-technology-based method for detecting the authenticity of ADS-B messages

  • To solve the problem that Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) technology is vulnerable to electronic spoofing, a method is explored, in this paper, for independent identification of ADS-B messages via a single ADS-B ground station. Based on the idea of position verification, ADS-B ground station is located in reverse by using the receiving time of ADS-B message and aircraft position information in the message. By detecting the size of the positioning error, the authenticity of the message can be detected. Simulation results show that the spoofing message will not be able to construct a correct space-time relationship between the aircraft reporting points and ADS-B ground station, so that the authenticity of the message can be detected by the size of the reverse positioning error. Detecting the reverse positioning error of ADS-B ground station can be used to judge the authenticity of ADS-B message.
