Narrative Collage for Soccer Video Summary

Collage has been a very popular representation on sparse images set and video disc cover, it presents the most interested key images in a single image with some artistic styles. Narrative collage has been proposed to optimize exploring of the soccer video summary, the selected key frames of the soccer highlights are collaged into a single image to attractive viewer’s attention. A set of candidate key frames are selected according to narrative features of different types of shots being included in a soccer highlight, and the regions of interest are extracted surrounding the user interested objects and retargeted to a clear appearance, Then the collaged arrangement are generated as the spatial-temporal logic to maximize the narrative representation of the ongoing event, which is more suitable for narrative summary on soccer highlights than the results of random collage or storyboard. Experimental results have illustrated that the proposed narrative collage not only succeeds in the summary purpose on narrating the players’ actions and characters’ expression in those highlights, but also depicts more narrative content more than the traditional storyboard in the same display area and consumes less throughput and viewing time than to directly skim several small video clips.
