Design of Novel Cascaded Polar Codes

  • The Polar codes is a novel and efficient kind of channel coding technology, which has been determined as the coding scheme of the 5G enhanced mobile broadband scenario control channel. In this paper, a scheme was presented based on the cyclic redundancy check(CRC)codes and parity check(PC)codes concatenating with polar codes, in which the CRC codes and the PC codes were used as outer codes, and the Polar codes were used as inner codes. In order to ensure the reliability of the path selection in the decoding process, the new cascaded Polar codes used the PC bit auxiliary path metric value to prune the decoding path compared with the CRC assisted Polar codes scheme. Thereby, its error correction performance was improved. And as the parity operation was simple, there was no significant increase in complexity. The simulation results show that the new cascaded Polar codes have excellent performance. Compared to the CRC assisted Polar codes, the new cascaded Polar codes have a gain of about 0.12 dB when the bit error rate is 10-6, the codes length is 512, and the codes rate is 1/3.
