A Frequency Estimation Algorithm of Sinusoidal Signal Capable of DFT and Iterative Correction

  • The frequency estimation of electromagnetic signals is widely used in the fields of communication, radar, navigation and electronic warfare. In order to make an accurate estimation of the sinusoidal signal frequency, this paper proposes a frequency estimation algorithm capable of Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) and iterative correction. The proposed algorithm is compared with the three existing frequency estimation algorithms capable of DFT. The results demonstrate that the frequency estimation performance of the proposed algorithm is definitely better than the other three algorithms, and the frequency estimation Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of the proposed algorithm can be very close to Cramer-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB). When the iteration is up to 5, the RMSE of the proposed algorithm is less than 0.07 dB from the CRLB, and there is no estimation error floor. The proposed algorithm is of high estimation accuracy, stable performance due to insensitive to the range of frequency and the complexity of iterative correction is low, so the proposed algorithm has a very great application value.
