Histogram Analysis and Pattern Recognition of Sky Region in Defogging Algorithm

  • 摘要: 基于模型的图像去雾算法在处理天空区域时存在理论上的缺陷,而现有天空保护方法存在参数非自适应或计算复杂度高等缺点。本文通过实验发现天空区域在图像的直方图中表现为一个显著的模式特征:可分离的尖峰分布。基于此发现,本文设计实现了一种简单的模式识别方法判决图像中是否存在天空区域并计算其置信度指标。在图像去雾应用中,自适应地设置与天空保护相关的参数。同时,本文提出了一种新的数据校正方式,相对于容差机制方法其效果更好。在包含1500张图片的图像数据库上进行测试,本文提出的天空检测方法正确率超过90%,说明本文的思想和方法是合理和有效的。
    Abstract: Model-based image dehazing algorithms have theoretical defects of dealing with the sky region, and the existing methods of sky protection are with non-adaptive parameters or high computational complexity. Based on experiments we found that the sky area has obvious pattern characteristic, a separable peak distribution, in the histogram of image. Based on this discovery, a simple pattern recognition method is proposed to decide whether there is sky region in the image, and then to compute the confidence coefficient of sky area. In fog-removal applications, the sky-related parameter can be set adaptively. Comparison to the tolerance mechanism, a novel method of data correction is presented with better effect. More testing results based on an image database with1500 pictures show that more than 90% images can be exactly distinguished by the proposed method, which in turn verify that the ideas and methods in this article are reasonable and effective.
